THE CASHMERE GOAT

The cashmere goat resides predominantly in the high plateaus of Asia with the most significant populations being found in the northwestern provinces of China and Mongolia. Little cashmere actually comes from the Kashmir State of India from which its name is derived.

The goats produce a double fleece consisting of the fine, soft undercoat (or underdown) and a much straighter, coarser outer coat. The fine underdown is separated from the coarse hairs by a process called ‘de-hairing’ into what we all know and love as "Cashmere", used for some of the world’s most luxurious products.

The raw material is then converted into yarn and dyed. This unique material is what Harrisons has become famous for the world over.
